This page details the application process for
both stained and painted floors. Scroll down for Painted Process.
STAINED CONCRETE PROCESS
SCORING
Scoring is performed after forms are
busted and framers chalk off all walls (both sides) with blue chalk and before framing on
the bare slab. We must have one 110V outlet on a 20amp circuit breaker within 200 of
furthest point on slab.
Surface Effects offers straight line, shallow scoring of grids and welcomes custom work -
deep scoring, wide scoring, twin blades, radius cuts, diamonds, state outlines,
various patterns, and your ideas and custom designs.
STAIN / PREFINISH
Stain/Prefinish is applied
immediately after dry-in, before insulation, sheetrock or masonry work including stucco.
The stain etches into the finished surface of the slab and lasts as long as the concrete
finish. Surface Effects welcomes any and all custom design work- multiple colors either
individual or layered, intricate multi-colored patterns, templates, and your ideas.
FINAL FINISH
Final finish is applied after all
trades are completely finished (i.e. painters, carpet installers and clean-up crews). Any
paint, stain, texture, etc. should be removed by the painters or cleaning crew prior to
Surface Effects arrival. They may use water, paint thinner, scrapers, wire brushes, etc.
Surface Effects is not a cleaning crew and will assess additional charges for clean up at
final finish
There will also be additional charges for work requested after final finish is completed.
However, any additional work will be approved by the responsible party before the work is
done and charges are incurred. Surface Effects would prefer to apply final finish at least
48 hours prior to occupancy.
PAINTED FLOORS PROCESS
BASE COAT / PATTERN FINISH /
1st CLEAR COAT
The base coat, painted effect,
and the 1st clear coat are applied near the end of construction. (Very similar to other
hard surface floors.)
All trades should be completed except the following:
Do not install shoe molding,
rubber base, toilets or other types of floors that butt up to the painted floor.
